The Cohoes Housing Authority offers three developments of family units, and one senior high rise. Section 8 subsidized housing, where you live in private housing and have your rent subsidized according to your income, is also available. How long of a wait to get into Housing? get into Housing? The wait list varies;
it takes 2 to 4 weeks to process an application. Depending on the vacancy rate,
it may take2 to 6 months for an apartment. In some cases, depending on the
number of bedrooms you are waiting for and what the turnover rate is, it may
take up to one year. You need birth
certificates and social security cards for everyone in the household, pay stubs
or information on your current income, and landlord names and addresses for the
past five years. Income includes any monies coming into the household, not just
wages. SSI or SSD, child support,
Social Services, are all included as part of household income. When do you take
applications? Applications are
taken from 9 am to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday thru Thursday. Rent is based on your
income (approximately 30% of your yearly gross), or flat rents.
