The Cohoes Housing Authority offers three developments of family units, and one senior high rise.  Section 8 subsidized housing, where you live in private housing and have your rent subsidized according to your income, is also available.

Directions to office:  from 787 up N. Mohawk Street all the way to falls. At blinking light take left onto Manor Avenue, and second right onto Williams Street. At sign for administrative building, bear left. MAP

How long of a wait to get into Housing?

The wait list varies; it takes 2 to 4 weeks to process an application. Depending on the vacancy rate, it may take2 to 6 months for an apartment. In some cases, depending on the number of bedrooms you are waiting for and what the turnover rate is, it may take up to one year.

What do I need to apply?

You need birth certificates and social security cards for everyone in the household, pay stubs or information on your current income, and landlord names and addresses for the past five years. Income includes any monies coming into the household, not just wages.  SSI or SSD, child support, Social Services, are all included as part of household income.

When do you take applications?

Applications are taken from 9 am to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday thru Thursday.

How much will the rent be?

Rent is based on your income (approximately 30% of your yearly gross), or flat rents.  See further information on the web site for income limits and flat rent rates.

Can I see an apartment? 

If you call the office at 235-4500 ext. 113, Linda Peterson, Tenant Relations Officer will arrange an appointment for viewing.  Also, see further information on the web site.

What number am I on the waiting list? 

The housing authority can give you an approximate time of wait for an apartment.  However, due to preferences and vacancy rates the list is always changing and an exact date or placement on the list cannot be given.
